Museo de la Necropolis Romana, Carmona, Sevilla, Spain
Discover the Necropolis takes place fortuitously during the years 1868 and 1869, during the raid work called Quemadero Road. From this date began a period of systematic exploitation by amateur and landowners with a lucrative target, so that the removed parts are sold to collectors. Thus many private collections arose, until in 1881 Juan Fernandez Lopez and Jorge Bonsor, along the foreman Luis Reyes Calabazo, initiated a scientific project, starting with the acquisition of land that currently make up the site of the necropolis. This project culminates with the creation of the Archaeological Society of Carmona and the Museum of the Necropolis, and a circuit allowing access to visitors in 1885. During these years many tombs were excavated, while they start the first publications, monographic, referring to the site. Visit Spain. Epic Spain Route © Monika Newbound
