El Rocio Almonte Festival | June 2018
In the month of June the road to Rocio is one of the most famous and popular Pilgrimages in all of Spain, along with the road from Santiago. La Blanca Paloma, or Dove, as the Virgin of Rocio is known, waits in her hermitage in Almonte, Huelva for pilgrims to arrive to take her out in a procession on Pentecost Sunday.
This pilgrimage is one of the most popular religious manifestations in Andalucia. Decorated carts, horses and cars come from all over the region to see the Virgin. The women wear Flamenco dresses and the men wear shorts, and the pilgrims are accompanied by Spanish guitar and flamenco singing. This important Andalusian folkloric event is not to be missed.
