Castillo de Segura de la Sierra, Jaén, Spain
The strength of Segura de la Sierra , built by the Almohad on the remains of a very old watchtower Roman times, was conquered by the Christians in the middle of the thirteenth century. It was profoundly transformed by the Order of Santiago, which stood at the center of the Encomienda of Castile, and became residence of the Grand Master of the Order of Santiago in the last quarter of the fifteenth century. It was the focus of one of the most important of Castile during the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries for its privileged enclave border territory of natural and cultural frontier between the Muslim and Christian cultures territorial and jurisdictional entities.
