Castillo de Aracena, Aracena, Huelva, Spain
The origin of Aracena is at the top of the hill occupied by the Castle and Priory Church . In medieval times it was a fortified town, defended by a fence muraria and strength. At this site they have been found archaeological remains of the tenth to thirteenth centuries, which show a population andalusí related to the settlement of Qatrasana documented in Islamic texts. Inside the Castillo de Aracena we can see the houses of the Andalusian period and the various offices of the medieval fortress. You enter the castle grounds through the gate or side door of the Palace. This space, which is in the highest and eastern hill is forming the fortified area of Aracena next to the courtyard.
