Nothing crossing the Arch of the Star the visitor is directed to the Plaza de Santa Maria, it is the nerve center of the city of Caceres. It opens the square opposite the church of Santa Maria, which was the first high-intramural Christian temple following the Reconquista. In his corner the statue of D. Pedro de Alcantara presiding whole square rises. It was the meeting place of the council and where many celebrations, tournaments and even theater were held. In the square has other renowned architectural value buildings like the Palace of Hernando de Ovando built on the north side; the Episcopal palace on the western side; Palace Mayoralgo one of the most remarkable of the nobility of the time; Golfines the palace, the palace was built by Sancho de Paredes Golfín, Waiter Queen Elizabeth; Carvajal Palace built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
