This iconic church the The Basilica de la Merced is a basilica located in the Plaza de la Merced in Jerez de la Frontera is just stunning. The present church was built in the s. XVI, although its facade is of s. XVII. The church had a bell tower over the main entrance, but was eliminated. Also it has a belfry on its roof which is not visible from the surrounding streets. Inside the main altarpiece, the work of Francisco Ribas. In 1810, with the arrival of Napoleon’s troops to the city, the order fled the convent property, which was used for quartering of troops.
